First Annual "Beginnings & Endings" To Be Held March 7, 2017

On March 7, 2017 members of the ETBU community will gather to listen to readings from favorite books.  The event, entitled "Beginnings and Endings" will feature selections from beginning or ending chapters and will be read by ETBU students, faculty, and staff.

Currently approximately fourteen people are slated to read selections from books as diverse as two of the Harry Potter books to Ulysses by James Joyce.  Other readings will include A Dog's Life by Ann M. Martin, A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, and The Bridge of San Luis Rey by Thornton Wilder.  To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee will have two different readers - one reading the beginning chapter and another the ending chapter.  About seven more selections will also be included.  Each selection will run from three to five minutes.

So join us for readings and refreshments on March 7th at 3:30 PM in the Jarrett Library Heritage Room!

Black History Month Display: The Buffalo Soldiers

February is Black History Month and Jarrett Library has put up its annual display. This year the theme deals with the "Buffalo Soldiers." The "Buffalo Soldiers" were one of the first six all African American Army regiments created by Congress in 1866. Four of the regiments were infantry and two were cavalry. Cheyenne warriors, out of respect for the fighting abilities, gave the 10th Cavalry the nickname "Buffalo Soldiers" in 1867. Eventually all African American soldiers were referred to as "Buffalo Soldiers." The Library is excited to announce the addition of Mometrix eLibrary for some hard-to-find test prep books. Accounting For students who are preparing for the CPA you now have access to CPA Exam Secrets .  The guide covers the content on the test and also provides "insight into typical test taking mistakes and how to overcome them." Spotlight on History...

Last year we added two history databases to our collections... U.S. History in Context and World History in Context .  Both are available through the GALE/Cengage Learning family of databases. U.S. History in Context "puts the tools of the historian into the hands of students..."  It strives to provide comprehensive coverage of the most-studied topics, from the arrival of Vikings in North America to Vietnam, Watergate, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.  The database contains the expected journal articles, but also books, photographs, images, government documents, biographies, court cases, and streaming video.  Coverage includes African American Perspectives, American Colonies, the Supreme Court, Economics, Events, Decades, and Cultural Trends, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, Political Constructs, Movements, and Organizations, and Wars & Conficts.
