New TexShare Databases for 2016-2017 Cover STEM, Legal, and Education

Several new TexShare databases were added during the summer and consist mainly of STEM, legal, and educational assistance. 

STEM Databases

There are two new STEM (acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) databases, one from Gale and the other from ProQuest plus a STEM collection for ebrary.

Science in Context is an engaging online experience for those seeking contextual information on
hundreds of today's most significant science topics. The solution merges Gale's authoritative and continuously updated reference content with full-text magazines, academic journals, news articles, experiments, images, videos, audio files and links to vetted websites organized into a user-friendly portal experience. 

The SciTech Premium Collection includes the Natural Science Collection and the Technology Collection and provides full-text titles from around the world, including scholarly journals, trade and industry journals, magazines, technical reports, conference proceedings, government publications, and more. For those researchers who need to conduct comprehensive literature reviews, this database includes specialized, editorial-controlled A&I resources for discovery of relevant scholarly research and technical literature critical to the discipline.

An add-on through Jarrett Library's ebrary e-book database, the Science and Technology E-book Subscription offers carefully curated e-books spanning coverage in all science and technology topics with exceptional strength in computers and IT, engineering, life and physical sciences, and math. It is designed to facilitate the research workflow and outcomes for your library and its users. The Subscription included renowned publishers such as Wiley, Island Press, World Scientific Press, University of North Carolina Press, Elsevier Science, Rutgers University Press, and Temple University Press.
Legal Database

For those people who like a do-it-youself approach to legal matters we now have the Gale Legal Forms.  It provides a wide selection of state-specific (Texas) and some multi-state legal forms across the most popular legal areas. Includes real estate contracts, wills, pre-marital agreements, bankruptcy, divorce, landlord tenant and many others. Also included is a comprehensive attorney state directory and a dictionary of legal definitions explained in laymen's language.

As with anything legal remember that librarians and library staff cannot give you legal advice, but we are happy to help you find the forms you may need. 

Education Database
Teachers of reading will find some great teaching aids in TeachingBooks, an easy-to-use website that adds a multimedia dimension to the reading experiences of children's and young adult books. The database is developed and maintained to include thousands of resources about fiction and nonfiction books used in the K–12 environment, with every resource selected to encourage the integration of multimedia author and book materials into reading and library activities.

February is Black History Month and Jarrett Library has put up its annual display. This year the theme deals with the "Buffalo Soldiers." The "Buffalo Soldiers" were one of the first six all African American Army regiments created by Congress in 1866. Four of the regiments were infantry and two were cavalry. New Test Prep eLibrary

The Library is excited to announce the addition of Mometrix eLibrary for some hard-to-find test prep books. Accounting For students who are preparing for the CPA you now have access to CPA Exam Secrets .  The guide covers the content on the test and also provides "insight into typical test taking mistakes and how to overcome them." Spotlight on History...

Last year we added two history databases to our collections... U.S. History in Context and World History in Context .  Both are available through the GALE/Cengage Learning family of databases.
